New Safer Routes to School and School Street Update

Please find important update from Southampton City Council regarding the new Healthy Streets and Safer Routes to School improvements around St Monica Primary School.

The improvements have been introduced to make the area around the school safer, calmer and more accessible for children and families. These include a new zebra crossing, a 20mph speed limit, improved crossings and resurfacing, as well as new parking restrictions.

New School Street – St Monica Road and Maxwell Road

Please be aware that a new School Street is now in operation. The restriction applies Monday to Friday during term time, including INSET days, between:

8:00am–9:30am
2:15pm–3:45pm

Parent/carer vehicles are not permitted to enter the School Street during these times. The restriction will be enforced by cameras from Thursday 3 September 2026, and non-permitted vehicles entering during the restricted times will receive a £70 Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

If you need to drive to school, Southampton City Council encourages families to park a little further away and walk the remaining 5–10 minutes to the school gate.

Please take some time to familiarise yourself with the new restrictions before travelling to school.

Further information can be found in the attached letter and via Southampton City Council's School Streets information and via email:
